Havian – Quality Control

Developed from the ground up in 2020, our QC Analytics module is flexible and powerful to cope with the demands of modern marine seismic qc. The automated import procedures handle all modern industry formats, as well as custom attribute files which vary from boat to boat.

Based heavily on the classic MultiPlot QC, this module enables the efficient verification of a new seismic line, with the option to drill down into the detail when necessary. Built into the traditional displays such as areal plots, time series charts and histograms are powerful layered contractual tests giving you quick traffic light indicators on acceptability.

Although this system can give you some very attractive plots and interactive replays to visualise what’s going on behind the boat, it also verifies every aspect of the processing that goes into the generation of the P1. Does the water depth include the transducer depth? Has the datum transformation been correctly applied? Have the GPS antenna offsets been correctly entered? Do the receiver positions agree with the raw acoustic ranges? Do the receiver depths agree with the raw bird depths? Can we replicate the source position based on the raw rGPS on the gun strings? Our system gives you the piece of mind that all these checks are happening after every line.

Areal Plots

All attributes generated in a single click with sensible default palettes relevant to the attribute. Axis can either be line number and shot number, or Northing and Easting. Click on the map to bring up the time series below the map.

Color Grids

Color grids allow us to display thousands of attributes on a single page of plots, instead of just relying on attributes at head/mid/tail, which will often miss issues. For example, streamer separations and depths at every receiver. Coloured streamer graphics show the results of the traffic light conditions that have been setup, highlighting the bad areas of the spread.

Sequence Report

Attributes can be assigned multiple conditions which partially automate the traditionally time consuming activity of end of line QC. Conditions have an associated severity level, which can be filtered on, to quickly generate reports with an appropriate level of detail. The results of these conditions are also highlighted in the attribute tree when QC’ing a line, to guide the user to potential areas of concern.

P1 verfication from raw P2

A key aspect of EOL QC is the verification of the P1 processing. For example we verify the P1 water depth by starting from the P2 echo sounder time, and applying calibration velocity, and echo sounder draft. A document going into detail of on this can be downloaded here

Receiver positioning verification

We verify the receiver positions by back calculating acoustic ranges based on the P1 receiver positions and checking that these match the raw acoustic ranges recorded in the P2.

Unrealistic streamer acceleration checks

We check all receiver positions for smoothness of movement, by calculating the streamer acceleration for every receiver in the in-line and x-line direction. Spikes due to poor processing are often identified and the P1 will require reprocessing.

P1 Replay

Watch a replay of all the positions in the P1. Quickly understand any geometry issues with source or streamer, or demonstrate jumps in P1 positions.

Bad shots map

Create an areal plot of all identified ‘bad shots’. Hover over points for more information.

4D source comparison

Compare source position to 4D preplots. Set up primary and secondary tolerance conditions for in-line and x-line.

Receiver noise and signal RMS

Import streamer RMS files with values at every receiver and shot. With noise windows and signal windows also view attributes for source balance, signal to noise ratios, and channel sensitivity.

Whole survey report

Generate condition reports for all sequences. Monitor the performance of attributes over time, and summarise whole survey data quality.

Channel noise and signal RMS stats

Sequence mean RMS noise and signal values are calculated at every receiver. These can be plotted as raw values, or compared to reference values to assess relative sensitivity across or along the streamers.
